“Walking of dogs prohibited… by order of death!” Photograph by Nathaniel St. Clair, CounterPunch – CC BY 4.0
These are some photographs I’ve taken of curb communiqués that have caught my eye while walking and cycling around Portland. Some are political. Some are jokes. Some are both. Some unlock the mysteries of the universe. Some I can’t make heads or tails of, but maybe you can decipher their code.
They are free to share and use, as long as you credit: ‘Photograph by Nathaniel St. Clair, CounterPunch – CC BY 4.0′

“They are out of weed in parts unknown. Is there a hero out there that will smoke them out?”

“Fuck Cops Fuck ICE Fuck ICE”

“I love wood.
I love Herman.
I love milk.
I love STUFF!”

“I’m no longer accepting the things I cannot change… I’m changing the things I cannot accept.”
– Angela Davis

“NO NEW DATA CENTERS IN OREGON!”

“FREE PALESTINE!”

“You didn’t sow a child in me,
you sowed yourself.
Now you grow in me, every day
more defined, larger.
There’s no more room for me in me,
and my soul lies like a dog at your feet
becoming weaker and weaker
but, as I die through you, as before,
I sing you my serenades.”
– Celia Dropkin

“Love your Mother.”

“Idiom: Have a WHALE of a time!
We’re having a whale of a time!
Meaning: Have an enjoyable time!!!”

“We’re dealing with well-sponsored disinformation.”

“Choose clarity.”

See ya next week!
“I am a frayed and nibbled survivor in a fallen world, and I am getting along. I am aging and eaten and have done my share of eating too. I am not washed and beautiful, in control of a shining world in which everything fits, but instead am wandering awed about on a splintered wreck I’ve come to care for, whose gnawed trees breathe a delicate air, whose bloodied and scarred creatures are my dearest companions, and whose beauty beats and shines not in its imperfections but overwhelmingly in spite of them, under the wind-rent clouds, upstream and down.”
~ Annie Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek
