Seasons of Death
We’re used to thinking of winter,
And fall, as the seasons of death
But summer’s being added to this list
As heatwaves turn the wheat fields black
And cities become ossuaries
Mountains, forests, water…
Even clouds are being burnt
You’ve read it in the papers
By the pictures of the thermokarst
And children being killed
In concentration camps
Forced to spend the nights
On burnished concrete, under lights,
The light is burning, also
