I hate to say it, but Trump and his nauseating communications director Steven Cheung have a point. “PSA: TRUMP IS STILL YOUR PRESIDENT,” the official White House account said on social media Wednesday morning. The post included a menacing picture of Trump staring into the camera with his fists balled on the Oval Office’s Resolute Desk.
“Donald J. Trump,” Cheung wrote on X, “is the President of the United States. Still your President!”
Liberals mocked Cheung on social media, calling Trump a “lame duck.”
“Can’t spin this one. Everyone hates what you guys are doing,” Tim Fullerton, CEO and co-founder of the progressive outlet Find Out Media, posted.
Liberals and progressives can mock and taunt all they want but the simple harsh reality is that the deranged fascist lunatic Trump and his deadly team of fascist thugs continue under the US slaveowners’ Constitution to dangerously hold unitary executive branch authority atop the most lethal superpower in world history. The depraved malignant narcissist and demented wananbe dictator Trump retains enormous power to wreak havoc and destruction at home and abroad. His murderous Gestapo and concentration camp arm ICE is funded beyond the level of most world militaries through September of 2029. The Trump Pentagon is funded to continue its reckless war on Iran, to possibly invade Cuba, and to continue its extrajudicial executions in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific, among other criminal activities. The regime’s relentless assault on environmental regulation, science, and public health will persist.
There is a real possibility that the Narcissist-in-Chief’s humiliating midterm debacle will make him yet more dangerous, vengeful, violent, and heedless than ever. The notion of leaving this wounded fascist lunatic in power atop the American Empire for two more years and three months is frankly insane.
Trump remains lethally immune from federal prosecution for any crime he commits, has committed, or will commit as president, thanks to his handpicked Supreme Court’s horrific 2024 ruling in Trump v. United States. And Trump retains the neo-monarchical constitutional power to pardon any of his depraved underlings for any crime they commit.
Two of the top three branches of the US federal government – the executive branch and the Supreme Court – remain under noxious right-wing control.
Thanks to their captivity to the nation’s underlying capitalist class dictatorship, to Trump’s presidential veto power, to the constitutionally powerful and right-tilted structure of the US Senate, and to Senate rules requiring 60 votes to pass most bills, the new Democratic-controlled Congress will implement no decent or progressive legislation. Barring some kind of magical transformation in the hearts and minds of Trump and Republicans, there’s no federal policy for the Democrats to make in that context.
Trump’s election night statement telling The New York Times that he will accept the outcomes and work with the Democrats should not be taken very seriously. He and his party spent this election cycle calling the Democrats a “communist” and “jihadist” menace to the American Way of Life. As has been recently reported, the Trump regime is making plans for ruling entirely without regard for Congress – an intensification of its already well-demonstrated preference for making policy through unitary executive command, in abject defiance of constitutional niceties and the rule of law.
“I have the ultimate power — it’s called ‘veto,'” President Trump told CBS News in an exclusive phone interview before polls closed Tuesday. Trump told CBS he is prepared to veto Democratic legislation if necessary, and he welcomes the moniker “Mr. Veto.” Trump posted a picture of a red “VETO” hat on Truth Social after Democrats won control of the House and Senate:
Ironically enough given his plans to rule without Congressional input and oversight, Trump will welcome Democratic control of Congress as an opportunity to strike out at his “radical Left” (LOL) political enemies and to share the blame with them for the sorry state of late-stage capitalist America.
Yes, a great majority of the US population – not “everyone” (sorry Tim Fullerton but MAGA retains an organized social base with powerful backers) but a strong majority – does in fact dislike and even in many cases “hate what you guys are [the fascist Trump regime is] doing.” Okay, but just how much do Americans reject and hate the Trump fascist regime? How pure is their rejection and hate? And how ready are they to act collectively on that rejection and hate in the streets right now and not just via savagely time-staggered and atomized ballot marking for ruling class candidates once every two or four years? Let’s take a quick look at just exactly what this regime – “you guys” in Tim Fullerton’s words – has “been doing,” courtesy of Refuse Fascism:
“The Trump Fascist Regime is shredding the rule of law. Making a mockery of due process…. Illegitimately deploying the military on U.S. soil. Disappearing immigrants and other brown-skinned people into brutal concentration camps. Aggressively resurrecting genocidal white supremacy. Reversing the gains not only of the 1960s, but even of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Enslaving women through the brutality and suffocation of forced motherhood. Erasing LGBT people. Trampling democratic rights. Violating international law. Assaulting and threatening politicians and judges. Paving the way for boundless terror against the people. Accelerating climate collapse. Cutting science and medicine, costing millions of lives. Depleting humanity’s store of knowledge. Destroying truth. Drowning out reason. Subjugating the arts to fascist cruelty and conformity. Waging an illegal and escalating war on Iran that endangers the future of humanity. Targeting everything that is decent, moral and good. All at the whim of a debased lunatic tyrant.”
There’s a lot to passionately hate there, and that’s the short list. A decent society and constitutional order would not permit a regime like this to stay in power another day. It would take up Refuse Fascism’s demand: the Trump Fascist Regime Must Go Now. Because the notion of letting the twisted fascist criminals Donald “Take Down the Metal Detectors” Trump, Stephen “We Are the Storm” Miller, JD “Cats and Dogs” Vance, Russell “Darth Vader” Vought, Susie “Ice Maiden” Wiles, “Liddle Marco” Rubio, Todd “Trump’s Lawyer” Blanche, “Testosterone Pete” Hegseth, Bobby “Measles” Kennedy Jr., and Natalie “The Human Printer” Harp et al. stay in executive branch power through January 20, 2029 is completely insane!
Of course, calling for Trump’s immediate removal is the last thing we can expect from most of the top Weimar Democrats, who paved the way for Trump’s ascendancies and egregiously failed to cancel his political career after he attempted a literal fascist coup to block the peaceful transfer of presidential power in 2020-21. During this midterm campaign, the dismal dollar Dems said depressingly little about the interrelated fascism (genocidal racism + misogynist patriarchy + xenophobic nationalism + arch-authoritarianism), ecocidalism, and criminal imperialism of the Trump47 regime. They ran overwhelmingly on affordability with a dose of anti-corruption, as if the main problem in America today is how to live with more material comfort and less economic anxiety under a fascist regime.
Well, gosh: the Nazi Third Reich made life more affordable for millions of middle- and working-class Germans during the middle and late 1930s.
And many victorious Democrats campaigned with significant tilts to the fascistic right in red states and districts.
Leading Democrats seem content to do what I just described above as “completely insane”: leave the deranged fascist lunatic and his regime in power for two-plus more years – this while posing and posturing in the media for the 2028 presidential and general elections (Get ready for hopey-changey Ossofomania!) Again and again this season, Democratic candidates and office-holders, including the apparent next Speaker of the House, Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), have sickeningly sworn to impeach and remove Trump (the single most corrupt and criminal president in US history) as a goal. These Dems say that “policy,” rather than time-consuming “investigation” and “theater,” should be their focus in 2027 and 2028.
This is complete bullshit. There’s no policy to be made under Trump, as explained above. And there is ample opportunity to draft at least ten Articles of Impeachment between now and January 3, 2027, the day the next House of Representatives is (supposed to be) seated.
“Investigation”? Have the Dem legislators and candidates and their underlings not been taking copious notes on the fascist criminality and corruption unfolding in plain sight over the last 21 months?! Hello? (I guarantee that numerous legal experts and Congressional staffers already have dozens of draft impeachment articles ready to go.)
The liberal historian Timothy Snyder said Monday that his biggest worry wasn’t whatever election-suppressing transgressions MAGA could try but a fear that the Democrats would win and then essentially do nothing. That would deepen cynicism about politics and provide even more fertile ground for fascism.
A serious and authentic anti-fascist opposition party – not the capitalist-imperialist Dems – atop the US House would hit Trump with at least five impeachments on January 6, 2026 (I would wait three days after seating because of the symbolism associated with the infamous day of Mein Trumpf’s attempted coup against Joe Biden’s election). It would then issue a call for millions to come to Washington DC and hit the streets and public squares across the country demanding that the Senate vote to remove Trump and his sadistic Christian Fascist Vice President from power before they can inflict any more damage on humanity. Or perhaps it would issue the call right now, telling Trump to do like Nixon in 1974 and resign before facing impeachment.
Which brings us to Tim Fullerton’s “everyone” – We the People. How pure is our hate? How properly unwilling are we to let these fascist maniacs under Trump and his likely heir Jimmy Vance (who once flattered Trump by describing him as “America’s Hitler”) endanger and destroy decency and the planet for two more years and three months? There are many people in the United States’ ruling and governing class who want the Trump regime gone but are unwilling to take up a serious fight for its removal. A mass and sustained struggle from below, day after day, demanding removal and questioning the system that gave rise to the regime, could change their calculations. Combined with the disastrous impact of the corrupt Trump regime’s reckless and depraved conduct on American power and legitimacy at home and abroad, it could lead them to conclude that getting rid of the criminal regime is more consistent with their long-term interests and system than letting the regime continue wreaking havoc. The risk of aligning with millions in the streets could be outweighed in their minds by the menace of letting the regime run the American System ever deeper into the ditch. Removing the Trump regime from power might strike these mainstream capitalist rulers as necessary for rebranding and maintaining the status quo, for stabilizing the system, and for calming the population.
This is how the nation’s more “reasonable” owners and rulers could be compelled to “do the right thing,” albeit for their own selfish reasons. Their reasons may not be ours but there is no good reason not to exploit divisions within the ruling class on behalf of a great popular movement to change the terms and terrain of American politics in ways full of potential for radical transformation. From a revolutionary perspective, the point would be to keep the mass pressure on the ruling class from below after removal and rebranding, relentlessly reminding newly energized masses that the parasitic system and underlying class dictatorship our “kinder, gentler” and cooler rulers defended by removing the regime is precisely what gave rise to the fascist horror that was the Trump regime in the first place. If carried out correctly, removing the Trump regime would be understood at the grassroots as the opening stage of a new radical people’s politics.
