The Spy From Ipanema

“As the Soviet Union Fell, Did the K.G.B. Leave a Gift in Brazil for Today’s Spies?”
–New York Times, May 22

Tall and tan and young and stealthy
The spy from Ipanema goes walking and
When she passes, each one she passes tells all

When she tails, she’s like a samba
That swings so coolly and sways so gently that
When she tails each one she tailed never saw

But I watch her so sadly
How can the Times know her secret
Yes, I would help her so gladly
But each day, when she walks stealthily
She looks straight ahead, not at me

Tall and tan and young and stealthy
The spy from Ipanema goes walking and
When she passes, I smile but she doesn’t see, doesn’t see
