The white magpie
is rare
Essentially
That it lives may be
attributed
more to luck
than fortitude
If it thrives
it is hard won,
not in competition,
but receiving no inclusion
it must survive in isolation
Otherwise
its unique
plumage
enrages
the flock will attack
Often
It helps to pretend it’s not
injured
And yet a white magpie
will still sing
It still has its songs
Though its choir be of one
And its song,
like all the hope
there
is on earth.
