The Fascism of Everyday Life

The Fascism of Everyday Life

Whether they’re blocking
the bike lanes or not
Pumping out carcinogenic exhaust
Turning the planet
Into a global gas chamber
Intentionally or merely
Absentmindedly menacing cities
And towns, slaughtering dozens
Nine dozen a day
On average in the USA
Cars and their cancer and sprawl
Are a key
Component of fascist geography
From the autostrade of Mussolini
to Hitler’s autobahn,
Highways and cars have been central to this
Since its inception
