MBROLA speech synthesizer files are updated.
Dear blinux subscriber,
the MBROLA speech synthesizer is now available as Redhat RPM package.
If you are running a system, which knows how to handle RPM files,
(Redhat, Debian, S.u.S.E...) installing and updating MBROLA is now as
easy as typing a command on your keyboard.
At ftp://leb.net under /pub/blinux/mbrola/blinux you'll find the MBROLA
synthesizer and scripts for easier handling of MBROLA's *.pho files.
The script files are incorporated in the 'mbrola-2.04a' RPM package.
If you don't use RPM compatible Linux distributions, you can get the
scripts seperately as 'mbrola-2.04a-scrpts.tar.gz'.
You'll also find RPMs of tts (text to speech) scripts, which speak
ASCII input through your sound card.
A RPM of a ttp (=text to phoneme) script is also available, which
transfers ASCII input into phoneme output. Phoneme output can feeded
into MBROLA.
Under /pub/blinux/mbrola/blinux/voices you'll find RPMs of voice files
for English, French, German, Netherlands, Romanian and Spanish language.
MBROLA in RPM format will also available from the RedHat ftp site and
its mirror sites later. You will find it then in the 'contrib' directory.
Check out the amazing quality of MBROLA speech synthesizer and hear
MBROLA's author sing in French language.
( /usr/lib/mbrola/fr1/TEST/chante.pho. Use mbrola-fr1-... voice file).
Lend (B)linux you ear
and enjoy!
Hans
PS.: I underestimated the time it took to build and squeeze this huge
amount of code (100 mb+) through a modem connection. So the FESTIVAL
speech system files could not uploaded this week. I'll pack them in
RPM format as soon as possible. (Next week should be OK).
