problem with emacspeak

I'm able to unzip and get emacspeak to work.  But when I run emacspeak I
get this message at the bottom of the screen saying cannot open load file
/root/.emacs.  And when I go to the root directory there is no file called
.emacs.  I'm able to emacspeak to talk to me. I just wanted to make sure
that the .emacs file doesn't keep emacspeak form working properly or 
crashing my machine.  What file in emacspeak makes the .emacs file.
Maybe I forgot to run the program that creates the .emacs file.
