Stacking arguments in a Unix executable!

I used to work on an IBM 360 running CMS. We had what we called exec
files which were similar to bat files in DOS. There was one command where
you could write for example "$stack 25". If you had an application to run
and it promped you for a value and you knew that value would be 25 ahead
of time then you could write an exec file to run the application and feed
it the 25.
The exec file would look like "run application-name" then the next
line would be "$stack 25".
Now I know I can write a text file with Unix commands in it and in my
unix shell issue the command "chmod +x file-spec" and then when I issue
the name of that file the unix commands will be executed. How do I
"stack" the valuses that the Unix commands will prompt for? What is the
syntax?
     Thanks, Jerry
