I had the same problem and solved it.  You need to make sure you have a
good vt100 emulator.  You also need to make sure you null modem cable
supports proper terminal signals.  I use a 9600 baud with hardware
handshaking.  It might also help to turn software handshaking on as well.
The problem occurs when characters get sent to fast and the terminal and
the speech hog your cpu and some get lost and some of the screen commands
do not get parsed correctly.
