LILO Stands for "Linux Loader". A small part of LILO resides in the
boot
sector of the drive that your system boots on. Using LILO, you can
easily
boot to several operating systems, without having to actually run Linux.

There is a "chicken and egg" problem in that in order to install LILO,
you
must be able to run Linux first. Once you are able to do that, you only
need run Linux if you allow the loader to run it.

There is an alternative to LILO that runs under DOS, called LOADLIN,
that
will allow you to boot to Linux. I think that it only boots to Linux,
though. You can use it DOS, and I have used it to boot from Windows95.
LOADLIN is part of the Slackeware distribution.
