I recommend Partition Magic by Power Quest coupled with System
Commander by V Communications. These two actually make a very blind
friendly multiple OS possible on one machine. I don't have mine booting
Linux yet, but I've had no problems over the past six months with
Windows 95, DOS 6.22, and OS/2 Warp. I've just trashed my DOS and OS/2
partitions to make room for Linux <grin>.
Partition Magic can be run with speech very successfully. While it
comes with all kinds of GUI glitz, you don't actually need to use the
GUI. There's one program, I think it's PQMAGICT.EXE, that does all the
partitioning, and it's fully character-based. And, it directly supports
Linux partitions.
I've not actually installed the System Commander piece myself, so I
won't venture a guess at how speech friendly it is or isn't. The two
are now bundled together, I understand, and the price should be under $100.
Once the partitioning is complete and you're System Commander is
installed, you'll come up to a simple menu at boot. Fortunately for the
blind user, System Commander plays a little non-tune through the PC
Speaker to summon your attention, so you'll know it's time to indicate
the OS you wish to select. It remembers and highlights your last boot,
but you can also type 'a' or 'b' or 'c' etc to indicate your selection.
The last letter is to boot from floppy, so you can even tell your CMOS
not to search for bootable floppies on boot up and still use a floppy
to boot from when you want to.
