I believe normally, with RedHat, the second CD is primarily SRPMS (Source code for the
RPM packages), and so is not by default installed. When my main server HD crashed the other day (mechanical failure - after a year of continual use; anyone need a SCSI paperweight?), I simply re-installed on a new working drive using the "public" RedHat 4.0 that came on a Yggdrasil disk set. The only problem I had was that it failed to create a lilo.conf! I used a boot disk I built from my other machine, and installed a fully built kernel in / (RedHat 4.0 installs a ramdisk image of boot modules, and a kernel image in /boot, but since it failed to build lilo.conf, I couldn't figure out how/what option in lilo.conf RedHat uses to get lilo to load the ramdisk image set as part of kernel boot - the server is SCSI only, 2940 no less, so I used a 'fat' kernel holding what I need :).
