Subject: jabt - a parallel driver for Alva

Hi all,

At last there it is:

A parallel driver for the Alva Braille Terminal series 3 and 4 (Delphi).

>From now on the abt320 program is called jabt.
Jabt is a driver for the Alva Braille Terminal series 3 and 4 (Delphi).
This new version supports the parallel port of the Alva Braille Terminal.
If you want to use the parallel port, simply start jabt with the
port address of the parallel port as argument:

   jabt -p 0x378

In most cases the Alva Braille Terminal is connected to the first
parallel port of your PC. This port is mostly 0x378. The second parallel
port (if there is any...) has address 0x3bc.
(Don't forget to switch your Alva Braille Terminal to parallel!)

If you want to use the serial port, jabt works just like the old
abt320 program.

Jabt has, just like the old abt320, a small version of screader built in.
Screader is a speech utility that can be used with a software speech
synthesizer like Festival or a hardware speech card. See for hardware
cards the tts file that comes with the jabt package.

Jabt also has cut and paste facilities.

Jabt is available from my homepage:

or via blinux:

      Best regards,

         Jos.
