Line Editor Keystroke Guide
The following keystrokes are valid when using the line editor to:
- edit forms,
- to respond to prompts,
- define names for bookmarked URLs, and
- compose comments via mailto links or the 'c' command if an
external editor has not been defined
via the Options Menu.
Cursor Movement Keystrokes
- move back one character: left-arrow
- move forward one character: right-arrow
- move cursor forward one word: control-N
- move cursor back one word: control-P
- go to the begining of the line: control-A, <home> <find>
- go to the end of the line: control-E,
<end>, or <select>
control-L, and control-W,
- move to the next input field: control-I
- control-I performs the same function as the TAB key
- move to the next line: control-J or control-M
- input complete: <enter> or carriage
return
- abort/cancel input: control-G or control-O
Deleting
- delete previous character: control-H,
<DEL>, or <remove>
- delete current character: control-D
- note: at the end of a line, control-D rubs out the preceding char.
- delete next character: control-R
- delete next word: control-F
- delete previous word: control-B
- delete entire line: control-U or control-X
Case Conversion
- convert to all uppercase characters: control-T
- convert to all lowercase characters: control-K
Miscellaneous Keystroke Commands
- undo: control-G and control-O
- while control-G and control-O can undo typing and erasures
the undo keys work in a very confusing manner, so proceed
with caution!
- refresh screen: control-L and control-W
- suspend Lynx: control-Z
- exit Lynx unconditionally: control-C
- kill Lynx: control-\ (control-backslash)
- note: exiting Lynx with control-backslash may result in a core dump;
the dumped file will be named lynx26.core
- stop/restart input: control-S or control-Q
- pause one keystroke: control-[ (control-left bracket)
- note: this is a traditional UN*X ESC sequence
- apparently nothing: control-V, control-Y, control-@, control-caret,
control-underline, control-right bracket
