To An Iraqi Child
By DAVID KRIEGER

for Ali Ismail Abbas

So you wanted to be a doctor?

It was not likely that your dreams
would have come true anyway.

We didn't intend for our bombs to find you.

They are smart bombs, but they
didn't know that you wanted to be a doctor.

They didn't know anything about your dreams
and they know nothing of love.

They only know how to find their targets
and explode in fulfillment.

We call them smart, but they cannot be trusted
with dreams.

After all, they are only gray metal casings
with violent hearts.

They do only what they were created to do.

It isn't their fault that they found you.

Perhaps you were not meant to be a doctor.

David Krieger is president of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation.

Write After Eternal
By ADAM ENGEL

Looking forward to your next adventure
write me after you begin
again, again
this time with cosmos not eternal
(slow decay impossible to know
without ticklish instruments
absurdly expensive
glamorous high tech --
margins of error thin, but noted
with numerals of birth and breeding).
Clock-tick side-kick
time observer lurks subjective
one with all you do.
Beginning of inquiry
not partial to "the facts"
framed as they are
"forever time facts..."
time is not forever, like
The Baron says --
Baron Von Boobus Ridiculous
no clothes but thirteen
prime rib stakes in
Time Objective and Forever
myth-seed of HIS being
way out there eternal
invisible unsigned.
No, no-way, no, not this time, no:
real being real seed
no time for laws and fictions
born of myth seed
tyrrany of wrong
barren Barony's round table
of benighted square pegs.
No again no
time or space for anything
but real -- congenital organic.
And don't forget to write
once you're unsettled.

Adam Engel can be reached at: bartleby.samsa@verizon.net

Watch What You Say
By STEW ALBERT

If Muslim,
don't get angry at Bush
and
be saying extreme revolutionary words
cause tough words
can earn you a life time
in a Christian's prison
maybe even wearing
iron mask.

If Jew
don't kibitz dark jokes
about Dubya
with implied threats
against meshugina menace
cause you may get taken off the air
be broadcasting instead
on prime time prison grapevine.

Stew Albert runs the Yippie Reading Room. His memoir, Who the Hell is Stew Albert?, is just out from Red Hen Press. He can be reached at: stewa@aol.com

Cloud Monet
By JEFFREY ST. CLAIR

The moon tonight is wrapped
in an amber skein of cloud,
leaving only distorted light
in the nightsky, as if, in a way,
it had been placed there--
a smear from the trembling
brush of the blind Monet.
