acid rodeo
By JOHN HOLT

the first good day of spring
in the rockies
and we all got
ripped on acid
with whiskey chasers
here and there
some bands were playing at
an abandoned rodeo arena
and somehow
we got there
without hitting
any hallucinations
we each bought a pitcher
and waded through the beer soaked dirt
a few cops
and thousands of people
tripping their brains out
under a clear sky
things turned crazy
as they always do
even the mountains
made a statement or so
just to keep things in perspective
the bands came and went
and the crowd
was gone
the wind came up
and blew away
it was wild
Doug Kershaw and topless women
and a bass player hit in the face
with a pitcher of beer
never missing a beat
when the music stopped
we climbed in a pickup
for the ride back to town
four wheel drive this time
over the top of a Cadillac
roof crushed down
we kept going
to a bar
late and fluorescent bright
crambled eggs and fried brains
shots of whiskey and
another rodeo down the drain

Jesus, What Is It Now?
By LARRY KEARNEY

the goddamn sons of bitches lost everything. now get the fucking
losers out of here. yeah you. pick the dead kid up and throw him over there.

and get the goodamn tarp and cover him. you. do it in your head if you want. but get him the fuck.

with his weak-ass father. out of here. and ball that old cunt's dress and burn it where they burn that stuff.

down to the outskirts of town. where they burn that stuff. could I get comfortable here for a goddamn second?

are there any of you know what's going on here? that I need to get comfortable so I can make the decisions

which are a great and terrible responsibility for which I was born? I'm the one god picked

and don't you goddamn forget it. could I get a goddamn fucking cheeseburger. you think

I could get that? is that easy enough for you? a cheeseburger? mom? jesus. what is it now?
