Walking XXIII

Today we are seeing a recession
of snow, life-giving water slicking 
down the treacherous ice that made my going
so rough. All around the edges of yards
you can see brown grass in shock 
at the wet and February cold. 

Good grief: I can relate 
to that, to slumbering struggle, to trickle-
down lies that benefit the slick 
in cold snaps. It's rough to be 
green out of season. Survival
 under six inches of frost. 

Tenuously rooted in a job, 
soggy and sullen with the fellow 
blades at the base of this ecology, 
this economy. 
We are still evolving a form 
resistant to being mowed down.

Knee Jerk Time in La-La Land

the cyclopean wrath of the zombie nation 
high on a drug called “fantasy.”

Each man’s head full of thoughts
that are not his own
–––without a mind to care–––
meantime, obsessed with his own junk
down under,
macho to a righteous degree,
yet, blind to the relativity 
of size.

Hello. 
It’s knee-jerk time in la-la land!
Who would have dreamed
that a bunch of good old boys
would take savage delight in ridicule
even as they seek shelter in numbers?
And all because they fear the dark!

Too strange for fiction. 
Whitman is rolling over.
Soon there will be no place left to stand.
