Firstly let me introduce myself. My name is Lucy
van Beek and I work for a television company based in
the UK called Paladin Invision (www.pitv.com). We
specialise in making historical and social
documentaries for BBC, PBS, National Geographic etc.
We are currently in production on a series of films
which are looking at Chinese maritime exploration
during the 15th Century within the context of maritime
trade in the Indian Ocean at that time.
The reason that I am writing to you is because we are
hoping to film in Oman and are currently researching
the maritime history of Oman during the 15th Century.
I wondered if there was anyone that you think we
should talk to, or books that we could read to learn
more about this subject. Also we have been told by
Prof Ptak that there is a contemporary account written
by the Omani's or the Arabs that comment on the
Chinese arriving in their ports and what they thought
of them. Unfortunately we have not been able to find
this yet and wondered if you could help us with it?
