Demographic data relative to Oman is available from the statistical
office which is now part of Oman's new Ministry of National Economy.
The website is http://www.modevelop.com . For many years, it was
part of the Development Council Technical Secretariat which then
became the Ministry of Development until the government re-shuffle
in December 1997. This statistical agency has probably also a very
good overview about who is currently doing research into Oman's
demography.

Another good source could be the UNDP office in Oman.

A short article on Oman's demographic issues has been published at
http://www.earthtimes.org/sept/populationreportfromsept27_97.htm
and might be of interest.

As a background to family planning issues, I also recommend Christine
Eickelman's article "Fertility and social change in Oman: women's
perspectives", in: Middle East Journal, Vol. 47, No. 4 (Autumn 1993),
pp. 657-666 (check also her other publications on Oman).
