Dear friends, to my knowlegde as a physician Oman is listed into the countries
with risk of malaria and especially with risk of malaria tropica. Resistance
again against Cloroquin are frequently described. 
Surely, in the big cities the risk is low, but  in Salalah, the Batinah and
possibly in Musandam the risk is evident.
So if you go to Oman for some days or weeks, please take malaria prophylaxis !
Standard advice :
500 mg Cloriquin once at week , one week before you enter and at least four week
after you leave
and !
Proguanil 200mg  at day for the same time.
That's what I take if I go to Oman.
People who stay longer then some months should speak with experts because they
can not take this drugs for so long time..
Please do not forget prophylaxis with repellents, cloths etc. after dusk.
Even if the incidence in Oman is low, do not underestimate Malaria !
 If you do so, it will kill you in few days !
