i had posted this question already during the last few days of the old list;
since i receivedonly one reply, i feel that it may not have reached everybody:

the german-omani association has been asked quite regularly over the last few
months by potential visitors to oman whether it is necessary or at least
advisable to protect oneself against maleria. 
most travel guides state that there is the risk of catching maleria in salalah
and musandam.
from a practical point of view (rather than the legal one), does anyone have
more details about the occurence of maleria? does it exist only in musandam and
salalah, or elsewhere? during which seasons (months) is one at risk?
