Tom Crumpacker: 1934-2006

Tom Crumpacker, a frequent contributor to CounterPunch, died on the morning of Friday, August 11 following a struggle with liver cancer. He was 72 years old. Born in Hammond, Indiana, he was raised in Colorado Springs and Aspen, Colorado. Tom Graduated from Yale University in 1957, from University of Michigan law school in February, 1960 and he received a masters degree in Latin American studies at Georgetown University in 1980.

Tom practiced law in Denver, Colorado, 1961-72; in Aspen , Colorado, 1972-88; and in Carbondale, Colorado, 1988-97. His business card identified himself as “Warrior Lawyer”. Following retirement in 1998, Tom moved to Miami where he wrote political essays on issues regarding U.S./Cuba relations

Tom is survived by his beloved wife Maray, his beloved daughters Casey and Cully, and by his beloved ex-wife Maryann Justman. Also by his sisters Mary Bennett of Carbondale, Colorado, Margareet Maddalone of Monte Vista, Colorado, and Posey Nelson of Crested Butte, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his son Owen Crumpacker of Parker, Colorado and his sister Alice Crumpacker of Denver, Colorado.
